Attractions and Activities

Golf
The golf course was upgraded to 18 holes (par72) a few years ago and is meandering through rapids and trout waters where spectacular mountain views abound. Your game of golf will begin at the clubhouse which is the highest point on the golf course. Adding to the pines and willows already on the estate are three hundred trees that have been transplanted from a local farm, including a 27m Lombard poplar, the tallest tree to be transplanted in the Southern Hemisphere.

Other activities
Clarens boasts with some of the best trout fishing in South Africa, fed by the cold waters of the Katse dam in Lesotho. For the adventure seekers that would like to do winter sports, Afriski in Lesotho offers skiing and snowboarding at above 3000m sea level.

The Ash River which starts in the Maluti Mountains provides the best white-water river rafting opportunities and is graded 3 and 4 all year round! You will find a range of other outdoor activities at hand like horse riding, mountain biking, abseiling, hiking, clay pigeon shooting, tennis, bowls, swimming and mountain climbing.

Clarens village
Throughout Clarens you will find many art galleries and craft shops and a number of restaurants and pubs to explore. These art galleries offer a great variety of work to intrigue any visitor. Clarens has seen a sharp increase in visitors due to the introduction of the annual Visuals Art Festival. Clarens hosts more art exhibitions monthly than the whole of Johannesburg together. If you have been in Clarens before, you may have noticed that there are no franchised restaurants or traffic lights in town and this gives Clarens its own "little town character".
