DESCRIPTION:
Marken Cottage and Tree House Cottage are two units situated on the property of one of Clarens’s most well-know and friendly residents, Vee Tiley. Situated in Van Zyl Street, they are a stone’s throw away from the beginning of mountain walks, as well as Clarens town square where restaurants, shops and galleries abound; yet they are well situated to enjoy the expansive and restful views for which Clarens is well-known.
Accommodation
Marken Cottage
Marken Cottage is a ‘home from home’, clinker brick cottage with everything necessary to make one’s stay comfortable and memorable. North-facing for maximum warmth and light in winter and for being cool and comfortable in summer, Marken Cottage has a patio and built-in braai area from which to relax and enjoy views of the Rooiberg Mountains which surround Clarens, Horeb Mountain being the most outstanding feature.
Marken Cottage sleeps 4. The main bedroom, also north facing, has a double bed and en-suite bathroom and toilet. The second bedroom has twin beds and en-suite shower and toilet. All beds have electric blankets and all linen and towels are provided.
The living area of the cottage, which has under-floor heating, is spacious with a lounge, dining room and open plan kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped for four people and includes a combination fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, as well as a counter-top two plate stove and oven, toaster, and kettle. Patios on either side of the cottage offer a place to relax and read, and enjoy an early morning tea or afternoon sundowners. Undercover, off road parking completes the picture.
Tree House Cottage
The Tree House Cottage is situated on the lower side of the property, down garden stairs. It is unique in character in that it was built around a few old pine trees which have since been chopped down, but the trunks still remain within the structure of the house. The Tree House is rustic in nature, and is situated next to a quite stream which runs through Clarens. The area around the cottage is wooded and secluded, which makes for a bird watcher’s paradise.
Tree House cottage sleeps 4, in two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed, and the bathroom, which is included in the bedroom has a bath, hand basin and toilet. The second bedroom has twin beds and leads into a second bathroom, which has a toilet, basin and shower. All the beds have electric blankets and linen and towels are provided.
In the centre of the house, a well equipped kitchen caters for 4 people. A cosy lounge and dining room leads out through a sliding door onto a patio and braai area. For winter days and nights, the cottage is heated with a gas heater and two wood burning stoves. Off road, undercover parking is provided for the occupants of Tree House Cottage.
Activities and Attractions
Visitors to Clarens have a variety of activities to choose from and they include, white water rafting, horse riding, quad biking, hiking, tennis, squash, trout fishing, art courses, golf, abseiling, mountain trails and nature reserves which also have some bushman paintings. Enquiries for all these activities can be made at the local information centres in Clarens. |
