Ou Kliphuis Clarens
The house is situated on Main Street in Clarens and is a very leisurely five minute stroll into town. Main street is a tar road so the paved off road parking provided adjacent to the house means your vehicle can have a rest as well!
Originally built in 1927 and owned by the Raats family as a holiday home for most of its life, the house had never had electricity and was equally in need of a complete overhaul. Where possible original features were saved and used again and the homely feel maintained.
Self Catering Accommodation
There is a large covered stoep with outside furniture and braai facilities. Inside the house there is lounge / dining area with an open fire and a six seater oak dining table and chairs. An iPod dock speaker is provided but there is no television.
There is a fully fitted kitchen with convection microwave, two ring gas hob, washing machine, dishwasher and an original working cast iron stove which can keep the whole house warm in winter.
Situated in the main house with access to and from the stoep via a separate door. This is a spacious room with all handmade furniture and fittings. There is a queen bed with an electric blanket available for winter.
Also situated in the main house, this room is equally spacious and fitted with handmade furniture throughout. The beds are singles and are also fitted with electric blankets for winter.
The original cast iron bath was salvaged and repositioned and prompted the use of exposed copper piping and Victorian taps in the main house. Whereas in the en suite third bedroom the feel is more contemporary and only a shower provided.
Third Bedroom or flatlet:
This room is also technically part of the original main house but is constructed so that it can be an entity on its own. The room has a fitted handmade kitchen equipped with a convection microwave, electric frying pan and sink within the bedroom. The queen bed itself is contained within handmade hanging cupboards and bedside tables. The space is maximised for comfort and is definitely not a shoe-in. There is a large ensuite shower room and toilet with wash basin. A separate stoep area at the front entrance is provided with a table and two chairs.
The recently landscaped garden will in time be a treasure and at this time the whole plot is available to enjoy.
A paved area in front of the house but off the road suitable for 3 or 4 cars is provided with security lighting.
